Any thoughts or comments on this short, 1:35, video from GAIA?

What is real, what is hype, unproven but possible, etc?

If you follow onto their webpage they've got a longer 42 minute video apparently available to view for free by signing up (I haven't done that yet). It includes this little bit of promo:

"Sonic Magic: The Wonder and Science of Sound reveals the historic power, promise, and potential of sound – and a strange phenomenon called cymatics that has created a new scientific mystery."

Created a new scientific mystery?

This is pretty misleading. The "sonic boiler" has been debunked - it heats with electricity, not sound. The "sound faster than light" is also misleading - all wave energy can travel faster than light when they do these experiments. The scientists are careful to point out that the components of sound "still travel at the speed of sound." The viruses also are killed with lasers, not sound. So, it's typical new age pseudoscience hype.

Joseph, Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunate that even established entities like gaia.com promote this stuff, thus giving the appearance of credibility to these ideas.

And then a statement like "...a strange phenomenon called cymatics that has created a new scientific mystery", is just ridiculous, but it sounds intriguing to those unfamiliar with it.

Right - "new scientific mystery" is kind of funny but really that's how long it takes for ideas to gain traction. 100+ years is not unusual.
