Pauline Oliveros took leave of this earthly plane last week, November 24, 2016.

If you are serious about Sound awareness check out the Deep Listening Institute and her work. She's a legend and influencer of many.

I am still mourning this loss.  I did not know Pauline well.  I met her 3 times and we kept friendly sporadic communication.  That said, she has influenced my work more than any other artist.

I use her book: Deep Listening:A Composers Practice as a starting point for much of my work. The above is a wonderful video.

Not sure if you are aware of this, but before Pauline passed she and Daniel Weintraub had begun creating a documentary together.  They are still looking for funds to complete it.  I have donated several times.  Even though the indiegogo campaign is completed, they are still accepting donations.  This is a wonderful project to support.

I went on a 2 week journey with her (and about 20 other women) around southern Italy and Sicily. They were doing ceremony and I was doing acoustical characterizations of ancient temples.

I didn’t know just who I was with.

What an honor.

If only I knew then some of what I know now, I would have learned a lot more from her.

Hopefully some of it is in here somewhere... osmosis.

I can only hope.

In my experience with her and many of my teachers, they expose you to little nuggets that you do not always get right then, but they grow into varying levels of understanding in the future.
